sorry if i’m off the mark here but i’m tired of both people who act really immature about not liking school and people who see those people and act really pretentious and awful because they think they have some sort of godly wisdom in saying “suck it up you spineless baby” when really things shouldn’t have to be this way they really shouldn’t
(also in case anyone mentions it: i’m a low-average high school student who generally gets by on really high test scores and has been thinking about ways the school system could improve mostly by watching their friends and observing their problems)
This is why I prefer open charter schools (here’s a fancy Wikipedia link for you), which are basically alternate schools with the goal of making students feel respected and like they can succeed. My school in particular makes students take a five-week class geared towards teaching respect and teamwork when they enroll. The teacher’s aren’t overbearing and they’re often okay with open discussion in class and they do reach out if they think something’s wrong.
It’s totally different from regular schools, and I could go on forever about it. :T
And I highly encourage you to see if there’s one in your area.

[The Houston Police] department said it has ruled all 187 officer-involved shootings of dogs since January 1, 2010 as justified.
According to departmental records, 121 of those dogs died.
In many police departments, Houston evidently included, officers need only “feel” threatened by the dog — an extremely subjective standard, to say the least — to shoot it. If your dog has an aggressive look (e.g. has bull terrier, shepherd, or doberman blood in him), or even if the officer just happened to be bitten by a dog as a kid and now has a phobia, you may find yourself with a dead dog for no real reason.
The ASPCA has commented that this “feeling threatened” standard “set a very low threshold for justifying the killing of dogs,” and it provides nearly blanket cover for officers’ behavior.
A few years back, a dog being fostered by the animal rescue where I adopted my dog was killed by a DC police officer who got off scot-free. The dog had gotten into a scuffle with another dog but was quickly restrained by the man fostering him.
That’s when a D.C. police officer took over, putting his knee in the middle of Parrot’s back while he pulled the dog’s forelegs behind him, Block [the foster owner] said. He said that the officer then grabbed Parrot by his neck and threw him over a banister at the Brass Knob antique store and that just as the dog righted itself, the officer pulled out his gun and fired. Parrot was “a full 12 to 15 steps away,” Block said, and was “making no aggressive overtures.” The dog, he noted, “doesn’t handle stairs well.”
Making the understatement of the year, the ASPCA adds, “Such incidents not only jeopardize the lives of companion animals, but also undermine the reputation of law enforcement agencies in the community.”
Indeed.
Change.org hosts a petition with 50,000 signatures seeking justice for Parrot — and if there’s anything to be learned from Hollywood about Americans, it’s that we’ll watch passively as people die by the dozen, but kill the dog and you’re definitely the bad guy now.
There are a couple of services that are really important to my life and my business. One of them is Tumblr and the other is Evernote. In promoting Evernote for example I often tell people that if Microsoft buys it I will retire. That is because it has become so important to my work flow and because of my view that large corporations hardly ever get these sort of services right.
Tumblr is equally important to me in a different way and I am part of the community and honoured to be one of the Tech editors, and have almost 200,000 followers.
There are rumours going around that Yahoo is in negotiations to buy Tumblr which worries me a hell of a lot. Let me be clear that I have no problems with the founders and investors making money off the contributions of the community but I worry what would happen to Tumblr in the hands of a large entity.
In a world where business models like these require both the founders and investors to contribute and create but the community to contribute and create as well, valuations and business strategies have a different flavour. No community and there is no business valuation.
If you have similar concerns then please reblog or like this post. I intend such support to be a signal to both Tumblr and Yahoo (if the rumours are true) that the community is concerned and should be involved in the decision making process. Maybe that is thinking with delusions of grandeur or maybe it isn’t - over to you the community to decide

Which is the unluckiest country?
Answer by Dimitris Manon Papageorgiou:
I think that most will represent their home country in this question.. not of egoism but mostly because they know their country’s history well and know it’s unlucky moments which sometimes hit them as more importand than other crisis at other regions. I would agree that Haiti is a very unlucky country.. and Japan as well for the earthquakes and the Tsunami .. etc.. but i am not the one to name another country with better arguments than my own country .. GreeceView Answer on Quora
Greece has born democracy.. literature.. comedy and drama.. the alphabet and many many primal things, concepts etc that you would not even imagine that were invented in Greece.. you could do some wiki search about it.. and you will agree with me plus you will be surprised. Well.. i will not speak for all the 5000 years of history my country has.. i will just mention the last 500.. not that the previous where good but they were better.. In 1453 ( 1453 ) the Turks seized the now known Instanbul (this city’s actual and Greek name is Konstantinoupolis .. as King Konstantinos the first king of the Byzantine kingdom created the city and named it by his name) and after that they captured all of Greece leaving only the island of Crete unclaimed.. for more than 400 years! Rapes, slaughter, cruelty, forbiding the christianity.. and the Greek language .. Turkey has done .. too many unspeakable things to my country for 400 years! Thank goodness the Orthodox Church kept a “hidden school” to teach to the greek youth the greek language in secret.. and the orthodox christianism .. also in secret .. both in fear of the punishment of death if the Turks found out.. In 1821 Georgios Karaiskakis and Theodoros Kolokotronis ( 1821 ) thieves of the mountains and rebelians.. against the Turkish state.. raised a rebelion which not only freed southern Greece eventually but progressively all today known Greece.. ( Balkan Wars ) and at around 1912 with the Balkan Wars northern Greece was freed as well. After that, 2 world wars with one of their main targets, Greece followed.. two i believe civil wars.. 2 kings apointed by Europe sent by Denmark enforced on us.. one dictatorship from the military, the junta.. one take over by the Germans, one by the Italians.. well.. and finally Greece reaches 1974 where students from the Athens technological University .. manages to throw down the junta finally creating for the first time after more than 500 years at LEAST the first democracy AGAIN.. since .. i believe the Ancient Greece.. while.. in since 1974 until today.. all the parties that have been members of the parliament up today have stolen EVERYTHING they could possibly steal and charge Greece for EVERYTHING they could possibly charge to get funds from EU and put them in their pockets.. leaving the people with a country debt that created the today crisis since 2008! Imagine that.. :) so.. i leave it for you to judge.. if we are the most unlucky nation or not.. by voting this answer, thank you.
